Utah Concealed Carry Requirements

Introduction

The Utah Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP) is one of the most sought-after in the U.S. thanks to its broad reciprocity, valid in over 30 states.  Many out-of-state residents also apply because Utah offers a non-resident permit.

Eligibility

     ✅ Age 21+ for standard permit, 18+ for provisional permit

     ✅ U.S. citizen or legal resident

     ✅ No felony convictions

     ✅ No violent misdemeanor convictions in past 5 years

     ✅ No substance abuse or mental health disqualifications

Required Training

You must complete a Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) approved class, either:

  • In-person with a certified instructor

  • Out-of-state through a Utah-certified trainer

Application Process

  1. Complete BCI-Approved Training – Instructor provides signed application

  2. Submit Application – Mail or deliver to Utah BCI

  3. Include Fingerprints – Two fingerprint cards required

  4. Pay Fee – $63.25 for residents, $72 for non-residents

  5. Wait for Processing – Typically 60 days
