Oregon Concealed Carry Requirements

Introduction

Oregon issues Concealed Handgun Licenses (CHLs) through county sheriffs.  While Oregon does not have reciprocity with other states, its CHL is necessary for legal concealed carry within state borders.

Eligibility

  • ✅ Age 21+

  • ✅ Oregon resident (some exceptions for bordering states)

  • ✅ No felony convictions

  • ✅ No misdemeanor convictions for certain offenses in last 4 years

  • ✅ Mentally competent

Required Training

You must take a state-approved firearms safety course, which can be:

  • NRA-certified course

  • Hunter safety course

  • Military or law enforcement training

Application Process

  1. Complete Training – Get proof

  2. Apply in Person at Sheriff’s Office

  3. Submit ID, Proof of Training, Fee

  4. Get Fingerprinted & Photographed

  5. Wait for Processing – Up to 45 days

Fees

  • New: $65

  • Renewal: $50

Reciprocity

Oregon does not honor any out-of-state permits.
