Georgia Concealed Carry Requirements

Introduction

Georgia issues a Weapons Carry License (WCL) through county probate courts.  While the state allows permitless carry for eligible adults, having a WCL provides reciprocity benefits and faster firearm purchases.

Eligibility

  • ✅ Age 21+ (18 for active military)

  • ✅ Georgia resident

  • ✅ No felony convictions

  • ✅ No drug or weapon-related misdemeanors in past 5 years

  • ✅ Mentally competent

Required Training

Georgia does not require firearms training for a WCL, but training is strongly recommended for safety and legal knowledge.

Application Process

  1. Apply at County Probate Court – In person

  2. Submit ID and Payment

  3. Fingerprinting & Background Check – At local law enforcement

  4. Wait for Processing – Up to 45 days

Fees

  • $30–$80 depending on county

Reciprocity

Georgia honors permits from all states; WCL is valid in 30+ states.
