California Concealed Carry Requirements

Introduction

California concealed carry permits (CCW) are issued at the county level and have strict eligibility and training requirements.

Eligibility

  • ✅ Age 21+

  • ✅ Resident of issuing county or city

  • ✅ Good moral character (subjective)

  • ✅ Demonstrated good cause (varies by jurisdiction)

  • ✅ No felony convictions

Required Training

California requires 8–16 hours of approved training for first-time applicants, including:

  • Firearm safety and handling

  • Legal use of deadly force

  • Live-fire qualification

Application Process

  2. Complete Training – As required by county
