Washington Concealed Carry Requirements

Introduction

Washington requires a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) for legal concealed carry.  The application process is relatively quick compared to other states, but Washington does not have permitless carry.

Eligibility

  • ✅ Age 21+

  • ✅ U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien

  • ✅ No felony convictions

  • ✅ No domestic violence convictions

  • ✅ Not subject to a restraining order

Required Training

Washington does not require firearms training to obtain a CPL, but training is strongly recommended for safety and legal compliance.

Application Process

  1. Apply at Local Law Enforcement Agency – In person

  2. Provide Valid Photo ID

  3. Get Fingerprinted

  4. Pay Fee

  5. Wait for Processing – Typically within 30 days (60 for non-residents)

Fees

  • New: ~$49.25

  • Renewal: ~$32

Reciprocity

Washington recognizes permits from select states; Washington CPL is valid in 20+ states.
